To Ngoc Thanh

Born: 1940

Qualifications: Vietnam Fine Arts College in 1962 and Prague Fine Arts University (former

Czechoslovakia) in 1974.

Taught by his father, To Ngoc Thanh started to paint since he was 4 years old and at the age of 9 he

worked as an assistant in a lacquer workshop to learn the skills.

His father is the distinguished artist TO NGOC VAN, a renowned artist graduated from the Ecole des

Beaux Arts de l’Indochine and is considered one of Vietnam’s top artists in the first half of the 20th

century.

He has won many international art prizes in Austria, Japan and the former Soviet Union. He has been

awarded a “For The Cause of Art” medal for his contribution to the Vietnamese fine arts scene.

To Ngoc Thanh often expresses the beauty of nature and landscapes of the country, especially his love

and passion for Sapa and its unique tribal culture as well as his hometown Hanoi where he still lives.

Warsaw, Poland.

Prize of graphic in Czechoslovakia 1972.

Gold medal at the Vietnam Film Festival 1980 – 1 st prize of Cartoon film painter 1980.

Special prize of Soviet Union Magazine in Moscow.

Prize of beautiful books Covers and illustration for children 1982-1983.

First prize of symbol on “Wiping out the hunger and reducing the poverty 1995”.

Third prize of Artistic books 1995.
